Another new show was introduced to Aberdeen audiences when Attic Theatre brought "Big The Musical" to Aberdeen Arts Centre. This is one of the more complex and demanding shows but under the clever direction of Laura Jarret, the cast gave very slick and confident performances.
Under the experienced baton of Musical Director Ken McLeod and choregraphy by Shona King, this was a fun and enjoyable show for both audiences and cast members.
Attic would like to thank Laura, her production team and cast for all their hard work as "Big" was certainly a very enjoyable show to watch.
Adapted from the movie starring Tom Hanks, "Big" tells the story of 12 year old Josh Baskin who can’t understand why he’s so self-conscious around his pretty 13 year old neighbour, Cynthia Benson. Although Josh doesn’t understand his new feelings, every parent in the neighbourhood knows exactly what’s happening: Josh and his friends are reaching adolescence and the painful process of becoming a grown-up has begun. Later, having embarrassed himself at the Carnival, he runs off only to find a deserted arcade game called "Zoltar Speaks". Outraged by the evening’s events, Josh blurts out the words "I wish I was big!". The machine eerily announces "Your Wish Is Granted". Suddenly thunder crashes and Josh races home.
The next morning, Josh is amazed to find that he has been transformed into a 30 year old man.
The show takes us through his adventures as a 12 year old in a man’s body, having to deal with the world of ‘the grown up’ – finding a job, dealing with advances from work colleagues and ultimately coming to terms with the fact that being a child is actually much less stressful. He should wait until it’s really time for him to be big. |
