Beast of a panto

With so many pantomimes to choose from this year, it's probably good move to stick with the original and best known, the Attic panto.

Having been in the game of entertaining children every Christmas for over 30 years, they certainly have patented a winning formula - and, judging by reaction of this first night audience, they've done it again.

With a script that bears little resemblance to either the fairytale or film version of Beauty and the Beast, the mass of Brownies, Cubs and Guides watching seemed unpreturbed as they were treated to Attic's magical formula with this year's title.

The jokes were fast flowing and topical - even pop idol got a mention -  and the special effects quite stunning, as the rescue of Prince Beaumont from the clutches of a very hairy beast was played out with the full backing of a very noisy audience.

With some loud bangs and flashes, this is probably not the most suitable pantomime for the youngest audience, but as an opportunity for older kids to let off steam, it is the perfect night out.
