ABOUT half an hour into Attic Theatre's panto Dick Whittington last
night, Fiona Cowan's dashing Whittington and Vicky Evans' sweet
Alice came over all romantic.
The
lights came down low, the tinsel curtain sparkled and the panto
sweethearts slipped into a smoochy ballad.
A little
voice behind me said: "Is this the end?"
Another
little voice replied: "Eventually."
Attic
could always be relied upon to deliver a good, old-fashioned
pantomime that keeps the kids on the brink of hysteria.
The
audience were certainly game for a laugh last night.
Some
serious vocal exercises had obviously been undertaken, because the
singing and screaming reached a new record high.
Particularly when Ashley Walker's outstanding Dame and Thomas
Forbes' comic Dozy Dave wheeled on the wonderful exploding balloon
machine.
Director
Frank Campbell has stuffed this panto with special effects, not
least of which is the superb dragon which threatens to gobble up the
front row.
